In whichever manner I would soon leave,
and how longer it would take me to turn away,
be assured that I have left for your happiness,
and I loved you only as I knew how.

I will want nothing but to find you again,
and the light that left your eyes.

I could try to cover the hole with life itself,
succumbing to the pain that I’ve created for your pleasure.
But I’ve resigned myself to keep it open, vulnerable,
for this is all I am to be thankful for.

This made me real.
And though things may never seem to stay forever,
it just might as long as I let it.

This is pain in my hands,
a souvenir of your being.
